Expectations for Time Commitment

Team schedules each season are dependent on the leagues and tournaments that each individual team chooses to participate in.  However, an average season will begin in early October and run through the end of February (or possibly early March).

  • Practices – Players should plan for a pair of 90-minute practices per week.  Dates, times and locations will vary week-to-week as we share gym time with other Franklin activities. Practices are normally weekday evenings in one of the Franklin school gyms.

  • League Games – Teams typically have league games one day per week.  The day of the week will be dependent on which league the team is playing in, however it is most common for league games to be played on either Saturday or Sunday.

  • Tournaments – Coaches will choose both which tournaments their teams will join and also how many tournaments their team will sign up for in a season.  Each tournament usually occurs on the weekends and also guarantees a minimum of 3 games per team.

A number of players in the program play other sports besides basketball - including soccer, volleyball, softball, and lacrosse.  Our program encourages players to play other sports so that they may develop a diverse set of physical skills.  We understand that in the early and latter parts of the season, there may be occasional overlap with schedules.  We ask that players try to balance their time commitment to all activities during overlapping months, but then try to give their full attention to basketball while in the core of the season.
